Minister Teresa Hawkins-Harris

Teresa Hawkins Harris is a devoted follower of Christ whose life has been shaped by God’s grace, steady guidance, and a deep desire to walk in His purpose. Her faith journey began at just nine years old, when she accepted Christ after witnessing the miraculous healing of her brother, Pastor Terence Hawkins, from asthma. That early encounter with God’s power became the foundation of her lifelong commitment to prayer, worship, and spiritual intimacy. It is through seasons of brokenness, renewal, and spiritual restoration that prepared her to be one of the coauthors of Our Prayer Journey.

Growing up in a ministry-centered home attending Mt. Zion Church of Deliverance, where her father later became Pastor, she learned early the value of serving God with humility, excellence, and joy. Over the years, she served in numerous capacities within the church, including Choir Director, Psalmist, Devotional Leader, hospitality ministry, Sunday School teacher, youth leader, and ultimately an ordained Evangelist.

Education

Teresa’s further educational path began by attending Jackson Community College before transferring to Michigan State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science degree, majoring in Social Work with a minor in Psychology. She later furthered her education by achieving a Master of Arts in Counseling from Spring Arbor University. Following college, Teresa returned to Jackson, the community that nurtured, cultivated, and shaped her character. With a heart committed to giving back, she dedicated 30 years of trained experience to the Jackson County Circuit Court–Family Division, serving in roles such as Shift Supervisor, Juvenile Probation Officer, and Adoption and Limited Guardianship Coordinator. For over 10 years she volunteered by co-facilitating an adolescent girls group, as well as youth and parenting classes.

Her leadership, integrity, and dedication led to significant promotions. Teresa was elevated to Youth Services Director, and later made history as the first female Director of the Jackson County Youth Center. She also served as a Jackson County Department Head, becoming a respected voice in youth justice, family restoration, and community advocacy.

Family 

Teresa became the wife of Elder Dwayne (Kenny) Harris in 2012 and relocated to Denver, Colorado. Together they are committed to building a life centered on God’s principles, love, and unity along with their cherished fur baby, KC. Beyond ministry and professional service, Teresa enjoys the creativity and joy of baking. She is the proud owner of Sweet T’s Homemade Desserts, where she shares her love for homemade treats with family, friends, and her community.
